About the program
The Pilates method is an exercise system developed by Joseph Pilates. Its other name is Contrology, because it is based on total control. Control is the basic building block of Pilates, and movements are performed on the basis of body control. For an exercise to be a Pilates exercise, we must first be able to speak of control. For this reason, body control is what is taught first in Pilates training. In the Pilates Matwork Instructor Certificate Program, we deal first with the 6 basic principles of Pilates. Then the process continues with anatomy training and ends with an intensive exercise program.
The Pilates Matwork Trainer Training Certificate Program is a 6-day training program. During the six days you complete the Pilates Matwork exercises and the anatomy information. Participants can join and succeed even if they have not had Pilates training before, if they feel ready for this intensive process. Participants who have already trained in Pilates can join in order to increase their knowledge and experience and take a step toward further progress in Pilates.
Six Basic Principles of Pilates
- Control: During Pilates exercises, the body must be fully controlled. We must be able to fully feel and observe the body while we are in control of the movement, the movement process and its outcome.
- Breath: In Pilates movements, breathing should be consistent and in harmony with the motion. The structure of your movement determines the shape of your breath.
- Centering: In Pilates movement, our center is usually the pelvic-abdominal region. Control and power are concentrated in this area, and the exercises are based on stabilization.
- Fluency: Pilates exercises have a system and fluency in themselves. The movements follow each other fluently with the breath. We ensure the fluency of movement and breath, and we try to protect it.
- Accuracy: When performing Pilates exercises, we must make sure that the movements are clear and precise. When control and precision in the body decrease, Pilates begins to move away from unity. With the right technique, we aim for good and ideal results.
- Concentration: When applying Pilates movements, we must first be fully aware of our body: its position, its structure, the center of the movement, its power, the regions it works. Physical and mental focus and concentration can greatly improve the outcome of Pilates exercises.

To take the exam, you must have completed these assignments and practices and attended at least 90% of the training.
Etkin İnsan Gelişim Institute was established in 1999. The Pilates Matwork and Reformer Instructor Certificate Program, launched in cooperation with the Ege University Continuing Education Center, is described as the first and only training program in Turkey to receive academic support from a state university.
